There is a lot of misinformation about only some specialties being able to perform dental implant placement.  Here you see Dr. Brower teaching a course to both dental specialists and to general dentists.  General dentists place far more dental implants than oral surgeons, periodontists, and prosthodontists combined.  The reason is that the number of general dentists far exceeds the number of specialists.  General dentists in more rural areas are required by their patients to be able to perform more procedures since a specialist may be many hours drive away.
